Vodafone Qatar company terminates roaming agreement with Karabakh Telecom(Trend News Agency (Azerbaijan) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 30 / Trend / Based on obtained information, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Qatar ascertained that Qatari mobile operator Vodafone Qatar has a roaming agreement with Karabakh Telecom, illegally operating in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry press service told Trend on Wednesday. The embassy has raised this issue in front of the Qatar Foreign Ministry and the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technologies demanding termination of the contract. Embassy officials also met with representatives of Vodafone Qatar and informed them about the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and occupation of Azerbaijani lands. As a result of the measures taken, the management of Vodafone Qatar confirmed its termination of a roaming agreement with Karabakh Telecom. The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions. |
