Globalstar supports Wi-Fi Traffic Jam relief

Jan 22, 2013 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- Globalstar, Inc. (OTC: GSAT) has expressed its support for Federal Communications Commission chairman Genachowski's recent call to boost Wi-Fi Speed and Reduce Wi-Fi Congestion in order to spur further wireless innovation for an ever increasing mobile world.

"As consumer adoption of wireless devices continues to soar, Wi-Fi congestion is becoming a critical problem for consumers and innovators," chairman Genachowski said.

As announced in November, Globalstar has petitioned the FCC to obtain the regulatory flexibility necessary to use its licensed MSS spectrum terrestrially to support mobile broadband applications throughout the United States, including Wi-Fi. Globalstar's petition for rulemaking has received public comments, to which the company will officially respond on January 29th.

Globalstar Inc. provides mobile voice and data communications services through satellite worldwide. The company operates 36 in-orbit satellites and 24 active ground stations. Globalstar, Inc. was founded in 2003 and is based in Covington, Louisiana.
