Xperia TX is easy to handle and comfortable in your palm. The phone weighs just 127 grams. The handset is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor at 1.5 GHz and runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich with 1GB of RAM. The main two drawbacks are it is not running on the latest Android operating system (Jelly Bean) and uses dual-core processor compared to the quad core handsets available on the market. May be Sony is trying to cut costs to compete with its rivals. The 4.5-inch (1280*720) display device uses Sony's Bravia engine TV technology to produce vibrant colours with 323 pixels per inch, slightly lower than Apple's iPhone 5 at 326 pixels per inch. The front of the device is totally flat and the white plastic finish on the top, back and sides looks cheap. Sony has totally changed its key positions on the phone as the power key is on the top left side of the phone, which is not appropriate for right handers. Normally it has to be on the top of right of the device. But it is good for left-handed users. On the right side, there is the volume rocker, standard micro-USB port and a dedicated camera key on the bottom right side. The device comes with some very useful apps but at the same time it is overloaded with unwanted apps. It is not a big deal; users can deactivate or remove the apps if not needed. At the same time, removing the apps will increase your storage space and can be used for storing something important. The preloaded apps like Wisepilot for Xperia, Playnow, Timescape and Sony Select are a waste of space. Sony's Walkman Music app is a useful one for music lovers and it has numerous settings and a clean user interface. The Music unlimited streaming app, which does not work in the region, allows subscribers to get full access to Sony Music's catalogue but you need to pay a premium. The placement of speaker on the back of the device will not impact the listeners even if the device is placed on the backside and this is due to its arc design. The 13MP camera on the backside takes very good photos in which Sony is very good at it, but the camera performs very poorly in indoors. Another drawback is that the onscreen shutter button takes time for the camera to focus on an object. The HD display screen can be seen under bright sunlight but there is a lag when swiping between the five home screens despite running at 1.5 GHz. Recording videos in full HD and watching it on the 4.5-inch Bravia engine is excellent. The colours are rich and vibrant. The phone comes with 16GB of onboard storage and can be expanded up to 32GB. During my tests, the 1,700 mAH Li-polymer battery lasted around nine hours of heavy use with WiFi on, playing videos, listening to music and occasional surfing. It is below average. It can last around one day if you are not a heavy user by just making calls, occasional surfing with WiFi on and listening to music or watching videos. The phone is priced at Dh2,199.
