Rio Tinto takes 4G to the Pilbara


Dec 10, 2012 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Rio Tinto has signed a contract with Alcatel-Lucent for the design and installation of fourth-generation mobile broadband technology in its West Angelas iron ore mine in Western Australia's Pilbara region. The network, which will cost $A2 million to $A3 million, will use the long-term evolution technology. It will replace the system of satellite and standard radio networks that are now used to control machinery at the mine.
