Connecticut Innovations invests $750,000 in Westport-based mobile technology company

Nov 13, 2012 (New Haven Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The state's quasi-public technology investment agency has invested $750,000 in a company that recently moved from California to Westport.

Connecticut Innovations' (CI) investment in Deets Inc. is part of a $1.5 million round of funding that includes money from individual investors. Deets makes software that provides users with a customized communications "dashboard" designed to facilitate collaboration between users of such Apple devices as the iPhone and iPad.

"This company offers a unique application not addressed by current communication networks," said Claire Leonardi, chief executive officer and executive director of CI, in a written statement. "It joins a growing base of mobile technology companies in Connecticut, helping to strengthen our state's capabilities in this rapidly growing sector." Deets, which is keeping a satellite office in California, is developing an application for Android smart phones that will be released in the first quarter of next year.

"With so much information coming at us through various channels -- email, text messages, voicemail, social media -- it's enough to make anyone feel overwhelmed," said Linda Miller, chief executive officer and founder of Deets. "Our platform gives control back to the individual to develop relationship-managed groups so communication is quick and relevant. With an estimated one billion smart phone users in the market today, we believe productive communication is the next step."
