As a more traditional, old-school gamer, I will admit that I haven’t embraced the metaverse as quickly as others. I personally don’t find the need to. But, that’s not to say that I am at all unfamiliar with what the metaverse can bring to gaming.
Platforms like Roblox, Fortnite and Decentraland exemplify what the metaverse can offer; they allow players to not only play, but also create, customize and monetize their experiences. The metaverse thrives on the idea of players as co-creators.
Some might say that this creates a participatory culture where user-generated content drives much of the value. Others might say that a big feature of gaming in the metaverse is interoperability — players can carry their digital identities, assets and currencies across different games and platforms. This is made possible through blockchain technology and NFTs, which ensure digital ownership and scarcity.
For example, a unique in-game item acquired in one metaverse game might also be used or traded in another, which blurs the lines between virtual and real-world economies.
This has created opportunities for gamers, developers and brands to collaborate.
The metaverse is evolving to provide rich, multidimensional experiences where players can build relationships, participate in shared activities, and even shape the very worlds they inhabit. As technology continues to advance, the potential of gaming in the metaverse expands, promising an era where virtual experiences rival the depth and complexity of the real world.
From a brand perspective, the metaverse opens up opportunities for brands to monetize digital assets, collaborate with creators and use blockchain technologies to establish verifiable ownership and exclusivity. But some brands may not know how to get the most out of the metaverse.
There is an opportunity to learn how during an Enterprise & Industrial Metaverse Expo panel session titled “Metaverse Fun Using AR/VR/MR to Propel Your Brand to the Top of Search Engine Results Pages,” taking place from noon to 1:45 PM Thursday, February 13 at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
