YouMail Watch 2.0: Enhancing Consumer Protection in Telecommunications

By Stefania Viscusi May 20, 2024

At a time when fraudulent calls are plaguing telecommunications networks, the need to safeguard consumers has become paramount. YouMail (News - Alert) Protective Services unveiled a new solution to combat this threat: Watch 2.0. The service empowers communications providers with real-time insights to identify and mitigate harmful activities on their networks.

"It's now possible for service providers to reliably, quickly, and economically detect when their customers are misbehaving and bothering Americans with illegal or unlawful robocalls," said YouMail CEO Alex Quilici (News - Alert). "As more and more service providers adopt our Watch offering, we should see far fewer of those calls, and those carriers still allowing those calls will become even more obvious."

Watch 2.0 taps into a huge pool of data from YouMail's extensive consumer user base and over 10 million active honeypots. This gives carriers a chance pinpoint bad calling patterns and root out nefarious actors operating within their networks.

The offering provides 3 tiers of traffic monitoring:

  1. Watch Shaken: Provides comprehensive call records, including Stir/Shaken attestation information, for illegal or unlawful calls intercepted by YouMail honeypots.
  2. Watch Fraud: Offers detailed call records of definitively known fraudulent calls, originating from or traversing the carrier's network and impacting consumers or honeypots.
  3. Watch Complete: Extends monitoring to cover all potentially illegal or unlawful calls, enhancing proactive detection and prevention measures.

Watch 2.0 also aligns with emerging FCC (News - Alert) requirements, particularly (Know Your Traffic) and KYC (Know Your Customer) as well as KYUP (Know Your Upstream Provider). The recent FCC policy introduces the Consumer Communications Information Services Threat (C-CIST) classification, a vital mechanism for identifying and combatting harmful schemes perpetrated against consumers.
