Hagens Berman Issues Retraction of Public Statements Regarding University of Washington Sexual Assault LawsuitAttorneys at Hagens Berman issue a retraction regarding public statements made Oct. 13, 2026, concerning the firm's active sexual assault lawsuit against the University of Washington (UW). "Despite this retraction our lawsuit will proceed based on other theories of why we believe defendants in this case were rightfully at fault," said Steve Berman, managing partner of Hagens Berman. "We issue this retraction to make sure public statements about this matter are accurate, not to cast doubt on what we believe to be a valid and strong case to support survivors' rights." The firm retracts the statement that an active restraining or protection order was in effect against defendant Wyatt Ohara when he applied to or enrolled at UW. No active restraining or protection order was in effect against Ohara when he applied to or enrolled at UW, and no court order barred him from attending parties with Jane Doe 2 at that time. A private agreement, distinguished from a court order, existed between Jane Doe 2's sorority and Ohara's fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi in which the parties agreed Ohara would not attend parties at which she was present. "The firm continues to pursue the rights of our client in this matter and look forward to bringing resolution in light of what she has experienced," Berman said.
