GrayRobinson Grows Admiralty and Maritime Practice with Veteran Maritime Defense Attorneys

GrayRobinson is pleased to announce the growth of its Admiralty and Maritime Team with the addition of three veteran maritime attorneys in the Miami office: Ryon L. Little, Charles G. De Leo, and Jan M. Kuylenstierna.

Little represents vessel owners, operators, insurers, protection and indemnity (P&I) clubs, and licensed mariners in maritime litigation and regulatory matters involving commercial, private, and luxury vessels. His practice spans vessel casualty investigations, marine environmental incidents, collisions and groundings, personal injury and wrongful death claims, crew and longshore claims, cargo and hull claims, and wreck removal and salvage disputes.

Little also advises clients on maritime regulatory compliance and represents them in investigations before the U.S. Coast Guard and other federal and state agencies, drawing on a distinguished career with the U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserves that included active-duty sea service and multiple reserve mobilizations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Hurricane Katrina efforts.

Little has received the Cuban American Bar Association's Pro Bono Excellence in Justice Award (2024) and has been recognized by Florida Super Lawyers for Transportation and Maritime Law (2023-2024). He serves as a proctor with the Maritime Law Association of the United States, previously chaired The Florida Bar's Admiralty Law Committee, and is a veteran member of the Miami-Dade County Veterans Treatment Court. Little earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and his Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He is admitted to practice in Florida and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.

Charles G. De Leo, Of Counsel
De Leo represents vessel owners, operators, protection and indemnity P&I clubs, and marine insurers in complex litigation involving maritime personal injury and wrongful death claims, natural resource damage and environmental claims, vessel collisions, hull and cargo claims, yacht-related matters, and products liability. He is frequently called upon to assist maritime industry clients navigating major marine casualties and environmental incidents throughout the Americas, and his bilingual fluency in Spanish and English and international background provide additional perspective across the region.

De Leo has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America for Admiralty and Maritime Law (2010-2027) and recognized by Florida Super Lawyers for Transportation and Maritime (2007-2026). He previously served on the Board of Directors of the Maritime Law Association of the United States (2019-2023) and chaired its Cruise and Passenger Vessels Committee and Torts and Casualties Committee, and he is a member of the South American P&I Correspondents Association (SAPIC). De Leo earned his Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California. He is admitted to practice in Florida and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Jan M. Kuylenstierna, Of Counsel
Kuylenstierna represents steamship lines, marinas, boatyards, ship repair facilities, boat manufacturers, freight forwarders, marine retailers, insurers, and other maritime interests throughout the United States and Europe. His work encompasses ocean cargo and shipping disputes, cargo damage claims, insurance coverage, environmental claims, vessel collision and allision matters, and personal injury and wrongful death claims, and he represents clients in litigation and arbitration proceedings both domestically and internationally, as well as in regulatory matters before the Federal Maritime Commission, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the U.S. Coast Guard. His prior experience working within the shipping industry provides practical insight into maritime operations and the commercial considerations underlying cargo and other shipping-related disputes.

Kuylenstierna is fluent in Spanish and has a working knowledge of Swedish and sign language. He is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, and the Swedish-American Bar Association. Kuylenstierna earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts from Loyola Marymount University. He is admitted to practice in Florida and New York, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
