BROOKLYN, N.Y., Sept. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Yank Technologies, a leader in long-range, high-power wireless charging solutions, has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract by SpaceWERX, the innovation arm of the U.S. Space Force, for wirelessly charging orbital assets, such as satellites, while in orbit.
The operational lifespan of Space Force satellites is often limited by spacecraft electrical subsystems, payloads, and energy storage. Because of this, the Space Force has been advancing efforts for on-orbit servicing. Future servicing missions will require reliable electrical power transfer between spacecraft, which can be challenging with traditional wired electrical connections requiring precise alignment and mechanical mating. Yank Technologies' novel wireless power system is designed to provide a reliable wireless electrical interface for power transfer during on-orbit servicing operations. The company's patented resonant inductive wireless power technology is engineered to maintain high-efficiency power transfer despite changes in spacecraft position and electrical load, enabling on-orbit recharging without mechanical docking or robotic interfaces. "With this contract, we will advance wireless power transfer to support future on-orbit servicing logistics for the U.S. Space Force.
