National Academy of Arbitrators Elects New Officers; Walt De Treux Sworn In as President, Jeanne Charles named President-ElectWalt De Treux of Philadelphia was installed as President of the National Academy of Arbitrators (NAA), the premier North American organization of labor and employment arbitrators. The announcement was made May 23 following the NAA's 79th Annual Meeting & Member Education Conference in Chicago. De Treux has been a labor and employment arbitrator and mediator since 1999, with a wide-ranging practice spanning numerous industries and issues. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University and Temple University School of Law, he previously served as Counsel to the Pennsylvania Conference of Teamsters and held leadership positions with the Pennsylvania Senate and Philadelphia City Council. He is also a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Since joining the NAA in 2007, De Treux has been an active leader in the organization, serving as Executive Secretary-Treasurer, member of the Board of Governors,Chronicle editor, National Coordinator of Regional Activities and chair of various committees, including the Committee on Professional Responsibility and Grievances. Over the past eight decades, the world of work and the role of workplace dispute resolution have expanded dramatically, and the Academy has consistently risen to meet new challenges," said De Treux. Arbitrator Jeanne C. Charles of Chicago and Pembroke Pines, Florida, was named President-Elect. She will succeed De Treux at the NAA's 2027 Annual Meeting, scheduled for May 4-7 in Montreal. In addition to De Treux and Charles, incoming Officers and Governors include Vice Presidents Jules Bloch (Toronto, ON) and Ruben R. Armendariz (Fair Oaks Ranch, TX); Governors Mark Asbell (Sherwood Park, AB), Rafael Gely (Columbia, MO) and Rosemary Pye (Chevy Chase, MD).
