400,000 porn sites blocked by CITC [Arab News (Saudi Arabia)]

(Arab News (Saudi Arabia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RIYADH: Arab News The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) blocked some 400,000 pornographic sites in 2013, a local daily reported. "The CITC receives 2,000 applications on a daily basis from users requesting the blockage of certain sites," the report said.

The commission deals with blocking requests by creating an independent ticket for each application and ascertaining whether violations exist within the links in question, the report said. The commission has also drafted a simplified guide for users in the Kingdom on how to deal with various breaches on social networking sites.

The guide has policies and rules that regulate published items on websites and contains advice on how to address personal abuse, privacy violation, plagiarism and infringement on intellectual property rights, the report said.

Popular sites such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are included, the report said.

The CITC had previously requested a ban on 58 fake accounts of prominent Saudi figures on Twitter and Facebook.
