Dovico Software Is Announcing Today the Official Launch of Dovico Apps

Dovico Apps is a portal dedicated to providing Dovico hosted clients with the tools and features they can use to maximize their time tracking and project management functions when users are on their mobile devices or away from the office.

Dovico Apps was originally conceived of eighteen months ago when the company recognized that changes in how and where people work are being brought on by the acceptance of smartphones and tablets in the corporate environment. There would soon be a need, not only for time and expense entry, but for management level functionality as well. The abundance and variations of mobile devices meant that Dovico Timesheet, the company’s core product, could not be easily or quickly adapted.

“The challenge was to find something nimble and open. The solution was twofold. First build a secure infrastructure from which Dovico and third party developers can easily push and pull timesheet data; the REST based API model was chosen for this task.” said Gerard Gallant, Senior Software Developer at Dovico. “Secondly, build a portal where the applications and services developed using this API are published, shared and improved. This would be available to all users and it would be easy for anyone to download an app or subscribe to a service. This portal is Dovico Apps.” These goals came to fruition earlier this year when Dovico quietly opened Dovico Apps and the API to targeted clients and third party developers. New apps were quickly built and added. With over 20 apps from six different contributors, this trend continues with apps for BlackBerry’s new Z10 smartphone becoming available only 5 days after the Z10 was released to the public.

The vast majority of apps and services available in Dovico Apps are free.
