Library hosts computer classes


MOORE, Jan 30, 2013 (The Moore American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Moore Public Library has announced its schedule of free computer classes for February.

Registration is required separately for each class and may be completed at the library by calling 793-4349 or visiting the Events Calendar at www.justsoyouknow.us/ moore.

The schedule includes: Feb. 5, 9:30 a.m.: Computer Basics: An introduction to the computer with practice using a mouse.

Feb. 8, 9:30 a.m.: Internet Basics Part 1: An introduction to the internet. Learn basic browser and toolbar functions and practice web surfing.

Feb. 12, 9:30 a.m.: Internet Basics Part 2: Go further on the internet by learning tools and tips that help you search the internet better and faster. Internet Basics Part 1 or equivalent is a pre-requisite.

Feb. 15, 9:30 a.m.: Basic Windows 7: Introduction to the operating software Microsoft Windows 7. Includes exploring the computer desktop, working with files and folders and understanding the basics of Windows 7.

Feb. 19, 9:30 a.m.: Basic Microsoft Excel 2010: Basic introduction to the spreadsheet software Microsoft Excel 2010. Includes creating a simple worksheet. Intermediate computer skills are recommended.

Feb, 21, 6:30 p.m.: Facebook for Beginners: A basic introduction to Facebook. Participants will register, learn about finding friends, accessing the Wall and Profile and Account information and learn how to protect privacy. Intermediate computer skills are recommended. Participants must have an email address and bring it, plus their password, to the class.



Feb. 26, 9:30 a.m.: Basic Microsoft PowerPoint 2010: An introduction to the presentation software Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. Participants will create a small presentation. Intermediate computer skills are recommended.

Teen tutoring help available in Moore Teens needing a boost with academic subjects can get the help they need with the YourTutor Program at the Moore Public Library.


The library partners with Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College to provide free tutoring for students in grades seventh through 12th. Sessions will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. most Tuesdays during the second semester of school at the library, 225 S. Howard Ave. No registration is required.

The YourTutor sessions will be available during the public school season, with breaks for holidays and school vacations. Each session lasts approximately one hour, with most school subjects available for individual tutoring assistance.

Students check in at the Information Services desk in the library to be paired with a tutor for one-on-one assistance in the areas of study that they need the most.

Visit 'Alice' at Mad Hatter Tea Party The Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library is bringing Wonderland inside the doors of the library at an event for children.

Children ages 2 to 12 are invited to a Mad Hatter Tea Party at 2 p.m. Saturday in Rooms A and B of the library, 2201 SW 134th St.

Participants are invited to dress up and wear crazy hats for a tea party based on the classic "Alice in Wonderland." Registration is required in advance. The program is limited to the first 35 children to sign up.
