LG U+ Video Calling Service Utilizes SPIRIT DSP

Nov 13, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- SPIRIT DSP, a voice and video over IP engines provider serving more than 1 billion users in 100+ countries, has announced that Korean service provider LG U+, a subsidiary of LG Group, has selected SPIRIT's TeamSpirit Voice&Video Engine Mobile to power a new video calling service.

According to a release, the new LG U+ service enables subscribers to make voice and video calls using Samsung Galaxy Player. LG U+ offers its subscribers media players with special preinstalled application. It includes a telephone number that allows Samsung Galaxy Player users to throw their landline phones overboard. Calls between Galaxy Players are free, and LG U+ expects the main source of revenue will be calls between Galaxy Player and mobile and landline phones. Video calls from media player to another Galaxy Player or cell phones are powered by TeamSpirit Voice & Video Engine Mobile, which allows LG U+ to provide HD video quality.

"LG U+, with its core approach of differentiation in technology innovative, is a long-standing SPIRIT customer who has come to rely on our technology to provide high quality VVoIP services to its subscribers," said SPIRIT's VP Alex Kravchenko. "This well-timed launch of this new service will help LG U+ bring in new subscribers and avoid loss of revenue resulting from subscribers switching to OTT providers like Skype and Google. We're pleased that SPIRIT products allow our operator customers to offer competitive solutions and hold their leadership positions in this rapidly changing telecommunications market."
