(NASDAQ: HCOM) -- With industry estimates for cybercrime topping $114 billion annually, businesses view security as one of their top risks and are increasingly investing in systems and processes to protect company and customer data.

While most large businesses have invested in security equipment and services, many smaller businesses lack the capital and the expertise to effectively manage security threats. Additionally, businesses face increasing federal, state and industry regulations requiring the protection of customer data and privacy; in the State of Hawaii alone, at least 30 bills dealing with cyber security were introduced in the 2012 Legislative Session.

To meet this need, Hawaiian Telcom has created a Multi-Threat Security Bundle (MTSB) combining firewall, Intrusion Protection, URL filtering, antivirus protection, and more for small-to-medium-sized businesses (under 100 users). This cost-effective solution provides 24 x 7 network monitoring as well as assistance with various compliance regulations and state laws.

"Smaller businesses are more vulnerable to security attacks because cyber criminals know they often lack the budget to invest in adequate protection," said Brad Fisher, Senior VP - Strategy and Marketing for Hawaiian Telcom. "Most business owners don't realize the losses they can incur until they face a security breach due to unauthorized access, malware, viruses, spam and phishing schemes. Our Multi-Threat Security Bundle helps businesses to protect their customer data, which also helps them to keep in compliance with increasing regulations." Many businesses rely on the Internet to run critical aspects of their operations, which opens up an entry point for criminals to infiltrate their systems.

"Deploying a managed security system like MTSB dramatically decreases a small-to-midsized business' exposure to an attack that can put sensitive information at risk," said Fisher.

Like all of its Managed Services' offerings, Hawaiian Telcom's MTSB solution is supported by its state-of-the-art Network Operations Center located in downtown Honolulu. This one-of-a-kind center provides end-to-end network surveillance and monitoring by security experts, 24 hours a day.

"Fortinet is very excited to be partnering with Hawaiian Telcom on the robust network security offerings available to their customers," said Kendra Krause, Vice President of Channel Sales at Fortinet. "Their motto of Always on is in line with Fortinet's belief that multi-threat network security needs to be accessible to businesses of all sizes so that they are protected in this complex threat landscape." "Hawaiian Telcom's commitment to providing reliable services and products in a comprehensive solution, like the Fortinet appliances, allows their customers to have a cost effective option without sacrificing network performance or overall security," added Krause.
