Hargray acquires two local cable systems [The Island Packet, Hilton Head Island, S.C.](Island Packet (Hilton Head, SC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) March 09--Hargray Communications has acquired two area Shentel cable systems. The systems serve residents in Bluffton's Westbury Park neighborhood and a community in Pooler, Ga., according to a news release Thursday. The conversion of Virginia-based Shenandoah Telecommunications Co.'s current customers onto Hargray's network will be completed this summer, according to Andrew Rein, Hargray's vice president of sales and marketing. "Residents in these communities will receive higher quality and more reliable telephone service, more channels ... and much faster Internet speeds," Rein said. He added that the switch would affect about 200 subscribers in each neighborhood. Hargray recently began converting customers from a Shentel system serving the Reserve at Woodbridge in Bluffton. Westbury Park subscribers can expect a broader variety of services and payment plans, Rein said. The acquisition "is great for current Shentel customers and provides residential customers in those neighborhoods with new and improved products backed by highly responsive local technical support and customer service," he said.
