Comtech EF Data receives equipment order for Vipersat-powered network

Mar 01, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp has announced that its subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp, has received a $2 million equipment order for a Vipersat-powered network from a managed network solutions provider. The equipment will support the network upgrade of a global maritime fleet.

The order included the supply of a Vipersat-powered network, specifically the CDM-570L Satellite Modems, the CDD-564L IP Demodulators, the Vipersat Management System and the Roaming Oceanic Satellite Server (ROSS).

With its architecture and support for advanced capabilities, the IP Module-equipped CDM-570L will allow for efficient networking and transport over satellite. The header and payload compression capabilities reduce bandwidth requirements and the multi-level Quality of Service functionality enables priority treatment of applications and the reduction of jitter and latency for real-time applications, the company said.

The Vipersat-powered network will integrate the CDM-570L and the CDD-564L with the automated bandwidth and capacity management tool, the Vipersat Management System. The combination provides dynamic Single Carrier per Channel (dSCPC) bandwidth management of the space segment. When integrated with the CDM-570L Satellite Modems and the CDD-564L IP Demodulators, the dSCPC technology establishes the high-speed IP SCPC carrier when a remote has an application to transport over the satellite link, the company added.

Fred Kornberg, President and CEO of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., commented on the order, "We are honored to have been selected as a key contributor to this maritime fleet upgrade project. Our technologies will facilitate satellite bandwidth savings while providing quality of service for the transmission of monitoring/tracking systems and crew welfare communications." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
