McDonnell appoints daughter to an advisory council

Sep 17, 2011 (Richmond Times-Dispatch - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Gov. Bob McDonnell has appointed his oldest daughter, Jeanine McDonnell, to the Modeling and Simulation Advisory Council as one of five new members.

It's a non-paid position on a council established in 2007 to advise the governor on policy and funding priorities to promote the modeling and simulation industry in Virginia.

Jeanine McDonnell works as senior program manager for test and evaluation with Command Post Technologies, which is headquartered in Suffolk at the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center.

J. Tucker Martin, a spokesman for McDonnell, said Jeanine was nominated for the appointment by John Sokolowski, executive director of the simulation center and chairman of the modeling and simulation council.

Jeanine McDonnell served in the Army as a leader of a satellite platoon in the Signal Corps in Iraq, which covers Army communication, according to Martin. She formulated plans for the preparation and deployment of 25 soldiers and eight tactical satellite systems connecting the network throughout Iraq, he said.

She began a career in government contracting after her Army service. She has worked for SAIC on a Joint Forces Command project, and she has worked for Northrop Grumman.

The 13-member council includes three state delegates, one state senator, six residents representing the modeling and simulation industry to be appointed by the governor, two Cabinet secretaries or their designees, and the executive director of the modeling advisory council.

Martin said the five new members were chosen from a pool of 15 people who were nominated and/or applied.
