Comcast has magical 2d quarterAug 03, 2011 (The Philadelphia Inquirer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Universal theme park in Florida with its popular Harry Potter attraction and the high-grossing box-office blockbuster Fast and Furious 5 helped boost Comcast Corp.'s pro forma second-quarter revenue by 9.4 percent. The Philadelphia-based company lost fewer cable-TV subscribers during this year's second quarter than the last year's -- 238,000 compared with 265,000 -- and added more high-speed Internet customers, which has been a focus of growth for Comcast. The company added 144,000 Internet customers compared with 118,000 added in the year-ago quarter. Revenue in the cable division rose to $9.3 billion, or 5.6 percent, and operating cash flow grew 6.8 percent to $3.9 billion. The biggest story, though, seemed to be the rebound at NBCUniversal, the entertainment division that Comcast acquired through a deal with General Electric Co. in January. Revenue there soared 17 percent in the second quarter to $5.2 billion, compared with the prior-year period, as all its divisions -- broadcast, cable networks, film and theme parks -- had double-digit growth. The division reported a profit, or cash flow, of $175 million. "We are confident that the strategic investments we continue to make at NBCUniversal and Comcast Cable are strengthening our businesses, driving profitable growth and building value for our shareholders," chief executive Brian Roberts said in a statement Wednesday morning.
