Avaya Inc Reportedly Planning $1 Billion IPO, Could File This WeekJun 07, 2011 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX) -- Avaya Inc. is planning to file a $1 billion initial public offering as early as this week, the online edition of the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The IPO could value the company at $5 billion or more, said the sources. Avaya is a large producer of phones and other telecommunications gear, and was taken private by buyout firms Silver Lake and TPG Capital in 2007. The lead underwriters, according to Dealogic data, are Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS), Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS), and JP Morgan Chase (NYSE:JPM). The company is joining a resurgent IPO market. May was the most active month for IPOs this year, with 18 companies debuting publicly. That was the most since December, when 19 companies conducted IPOs in the month. Avaya, once part of AT&T (NYSE:T), sells telecommunications equipment and phones to other companies. It also sells software and hardware that corporations use in their call centers. The company is based in Basking Ridge, N.J., and has about 19,000 employees globally.
