Statement Says Istanbul Bombing Not Work of PKKNov 01, 2010 (SmarTrend News Watch via COMTEX) -- The Kurdish Workers Party, or PKK, have been blamed by Turkish media for Sunday's suicide bombing which wounded 32 people, but an organization representing PKK denied the party's involvement in the attack, reports the Wall Street Journal. A statement from the Union Communities in Kurdistan said: "On a day when our movement was preparing an historic step to extend our cease-fire decision for peace and a democratic solution, it is impossible for us to have conducted this kind of an action." Demands were also laid out in the statement for Turkey's government: to end military operations working against PKK, the release of Kurdish politicians, for jailed PKK leader Abdulla Ocalan to participate in negotiations for peace, and more. The PKK has been at war with Turkey since 1984 and approximately 40,000 people have died as a result of the ongoing conflict.
