Union First Market Bank opening has glitchesMar 23, 2010 (The Free Lance-Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The new Union First Market Bank had a few opening-day glitches yesterday that affected customers trying to use their debit cards and call the bank for service. Union Bank & Trust and First Market Bank officially merged operations yesterday morning to form Union First Market Bank. Some former First Market Bank customers were unable to use their debit cards at stores or ATMs yesterday morning, said William Beale, CEO of bank holding company Union First Market Bankshares Corp. That was fixed by 10:30 a.m. A few problems with the bank's phone system lingered yesterday, Beale said, though everything was expected to be fixed by this morning. People who called customer service weren't being switched to a live representative upon request. Beale said everything the bank was able to practice ahead of time -- including converting deposit and loan records into the merged operation -- went smoothly. "In the grand scheme of things it went pretty well," Beale said. Union Bankshares Corp. acquired First Market Bank on Feb. 1. The holding company switched its name to Union First Market Bankshares Corp., but First Market Bank and Union Bank & Trust continued as two separate brands until yesterday morning.
