7 killed in security forces fresh offensive in MaidanDIR, May 01, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- Security forces have launched fresh offensive in Maidan region in Lower Dir Friday killing seven militants. The forces have continued shelling at the hideouts of the militants while large number of people fleeing from the area. The authorities announced curfew break in the area from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Sources said that security forces overnight actions against the militants at Darmal in Lower Dir area claimed seven dead. Security forces heavy guns shelling on the militants' hideouts continued overnight at Chinarkot area of Tehsil Maidan, which destroyed several hideouts of the militants. Gunship helicopters the other day evening shelled the militants' hideouts at Tehsil Chakdara, which injured four children also. Armed persons have set up check post on G.T. Road in Chakdara area and the moving vehicles were being searched. On the other hand, local people are fleeing in large number from the area to their relatives in safer areas.
