eBuddy Improves Performance and Scales for Future Growth in Switch and Data's High Power Density Silicon Valley Data Center

TAMPA, Fla. --(Business Wire)--

Switch and Data (NASDAQ: SDXC), a leading provider of network neutral data center and Internet exchange services, announced today that eBuddy, the world's leading independent provider of web and mobile instant messaging (IM), has consolidated its server infrastructure into Switch and Data's high performance data center in Sunnyvale, CA. More than 18 million visitors access eBuddy each month to chat free of charge within one, aggregated interface that supports the five leading IM networks. eBuddy selected Switch and Data's modern, high power density site in the heart of Silicon Valley to minimize latency by locating its infrastructure in close proximity to the leading IM platforms, and to secure power availability to support the rapid growth of traffic on its servers.

eBuddy's patent-pending technology enables millions of monthly global visitors with IM accounts from the leading IM networks to chat free of charge in one aggregated interface, without having to download or install any application on their computer. Because IM users chat in real time, providing a low latency application is critical to the user experience. eBuddy has experienced tremendous adoption and growth, which it expects to continue.

eBuddy's servers were deployed in a network provider's legacy data center which could only supply power up to 125 watts per square foot. eBuddy needed more power to continue to scale its infrastructure in a Silicon Valley location which is critical for its network performance. Switch and Data's new high-performance data center in Sunnyvale, CA offers power and cooling capacity up to 200 watts per square foot. This ensures eBuddy has ample space and power to expand its business.

"We evaluated multiple providers in Silicon Valley and Switch and Data stood out with a modern, high security facility, market leading power density, and their reputation for excellent technical support," said Onno Bakker, eBuddy co-Founder and COO. "Our new facility in their Sunnyvale site gives us the power to scale our infrastructure well into the future to support the continued growth of our business."

Web 2.0 companies as well as digital content providers and companies which provide web-based software applications, require increasing power density and cooling to store and distribute their content. In the past year, Switch and Data has launched five new sites in Dallas, New York Metro, San Francisco Bay Area, Toronto and Vienna, VA which have been built to supply power and cooling at more than 200 watts per square foot. Switch and Data' offers web-centric companies a broad choice of locations in key markets across North America, interconnection opportunities with multiple networks in each site, industry leading technical support and its continued investment in new facilities to provide space and power for growth.

"Colocation customer demand for power and cooling to run the latest high density computing equipment continues to grow rapidly," said Ernie Sampera, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Switch and Data. "Switch and Data's power density and cooling capacity allow us to offer web-centric companies an efficient and cost effective place to connect in sites that allow them to scale to support their growth well in to the future."
