Kettle Creations gains additional incentives: Firm locating in Gateway industrial park(Lima News, The (Ohio) (KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 5--LIMA -- City tax incentives are on the way for Kettle Creations, a company planning to open a $25 million food manufacturing facility in Gateway Commerce industrial park. Kettle Creations, a new company, will manufacture 50 million pounds of mashed potatoes a year and 20 million pounds of other side dishes such as macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, sauces and gravies. The company's president, Don Klausing, knows a thing or two about mashed potatoes and the prepared-food industry. Klausing was in the business once before, with I&K Food in Delphos, now owned by another food manufacturer. "We've been in this business before," Klausing said. "We think there's a market for it." Allen County Economic Development Director Marcel Wagner thanked county, city and school government officials for the work done. "We've had this park seven, eight years, and one of the things we've heard from folks is that they didn't want to be the first ones," Wagner said. "Here we have a local saying we'll take the risk and be first, and now we don't have vacant ground, we have an active park, and people are interested." At a meeting Monday, City councilors welcomed Klausing and the company to the city and expressed appreciation for the new business. The company is receiving a 100 percent property tax abatement for eight years and will receive an incentive payment from the city for five years equal to about half of what the company will pay in income tax on a $3.8 million payroll for 105 new jobs to be created. The company is also receiving state tax credits. Kettle Creations expects to be finished with construction on the 100,000-square foot facility by February.
