TMC and SIPfoundry Partner To Advance the Development of Open Source IP Telephony

Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC®) announced plans today to enter into a strategic partnership with SIPfoundry (www.sipfoundry.org), the industry’s leading open source IP telephony development organization, in programs and events to grow the market for open source communications solutions. SIPfoundry was chartered to leverage the open source development process to create and advance innovative IP telephony platforms and applications based on the IETF Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) standard. As the market for VoIP platforms and services heats up, TMC is providing the industry’s definitive conference for developers interested in helping the industry through the inevitable circuit to packet transition.

According to SIPfoundry and TMC spokespeople, SIPfoundry will sponsor educational programs, as well as membership and/or leadership meetings, at TMC’s INTERNET TELEPHONY® Conference & EXPO and VoIP Developer Conferences. SIPfoundry and TMC will also collaborate on development of webinars, newsletters, and other vehicles for open source development education.

The first SIPfoundry program, titled “Leveraging Open Source for VoIP Application Development,” will be held in conjunction with TMC’s upcoming VoIP Developer Conference, August 3-4, 2004 in San Jose, California. SIPfoundry will also host a technical session on Tuesday evening during the conference to provide a “hands on” tutorial for developers highlighting current development projects within the open source community and how they can leverage this development within their own IT departments.

Rich Tehrani, TMC president and conference chairman for INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO, recognizes that as open source development using SIP gains real momentum and produces important solutions, educational programs like those offered by the SIPfoundry are an absolute necessity.

“Converged communications are finally ready to compete head-to-head with traditional communications solutions, and programs like the open source sessions hosted by SIPfoundry are invaluable to developers building the next-generation of telecom applications,” explained Tehrani.

“TMC’s brand-new VoIP Developer Conference, and the established INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO (being held for the 10th time this October), are premier events for educating industry and business/institutional users to the benefits derived from the integration of voice, data, fax and video. Together, the TMC and SIPfoundry programs address one of the most important drivers of that convergence,” added Tehrani.

“The market is ready for a viable open source, standards-based IP telephony alternative to the single vendor proprietary solutions that have plagued the industry for years,” said Martin Steinmann of SIPfoundry treasurer and member of the board of directors. “SIPfoundry provides the community forum where developers can collaborate in an open environment to create enterprise-grade SIP-based IP telephony products and applications. Partnering with TMC to create a robust education program at their industry leading conference series will help us reach out to developers interested in becoming part of the open source effort.”
