GRIC Strengthens Leadership in Secure Wireless Access

MILPITAS, Calif., May 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GRIC Communications, Inc. (Nasadq: GRIC), the world's leading provider of managed remote solutions, is strengthening its leadership position in secure wireless access for on-the-go enterprises and corporate road warriors.
The company is adding support for GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), a packet-based wireless communications service based on the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), in the forthcoming new version of its award-winning Mobile Office solution.
GRIC Mobile Office users who subscribe to a GPRS service will be able to wirelessly access their corporate networks and applications, send and receive emails, surf the Internet, and even participate in online meetings and video conferences anywhere there is a GPRS signal. End users also can exchange SMS messages with other devices on the GPRS network.
"GRIC is delivering on our vision of providing secure, reliable, and cost-effective access to corporate networks, email, and applications, from virtually anywhere using all popular access methods including wireless," said Rob Fuggetta, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for GRIC.
"We are dramatically boosting productivity of mobile professionals by providing end users with a seamless, consistent experience, regardless of access method, network, or location and by continually expanding our mobile broadband network," he stated. GRIC's secure mobile broadband network, which is one of the world's largest, features a total of approximately 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspots and hotel Ethernet access points. GRIC's global access network also includes over 35,000 other access points.
Boosting Mobile Productivity
The award-winning GRIC Mobile Office is a complete, integrated, and secure mobility solution. It enables mobile professionals to send and receive emails, securely access business applications like SAP, Siebel, and Oracle, and surf the Internet and corporate Intranets, from nearly everywhere using multiple wired and wireless access methods. As a hosted solution, Mobile Office virtually eliminates up-front capital expenses and cuts ongoing communications, management, and support costs by 50 percent or more, saving enterprises millions of dollars and boosting productivity of mobile workers.
Multiple Access Choices
In addition to GPRS, Mobile Office users can choose from three other access methods for the ultimate in convenience and flexibility. Wi-Fi access is available from over 7,700 Wi-Fi hotspots in 45 countries. These hotspots are located in hotels, convention centers, airports, cafes, and other popular business venues. In addition, GRIC Mobile Office provides thousands of Ethernet access points in more than 250,000 rooms at leading hotel chains worldwide. In addition, mobile users can use more than 35,000 dial-up access points in over 150 countries across the world.
Making Wireless Secure and Manageable
GRIC makes wireless access enterprise-ready with its recently-announced "Total Security Protection," (TSP) the industry's most comprehensive security platform for remote access. TSP includes centrally-managed, policy-driven security services: hosted user authentication, managed IP VPNs, and personal firewalls and intrusion prevention. Tight integration, strict policy enforcement, and automatic remediation create a powerful defense that protects both the corporate network and mobile PCs.
GRIC's "Universal Remote Control," (URC) which is included with all GRIC solutions, makes wireless access manageable. The URC is the industry's first real-time remote access management platform. The URC unifies all the functionality that enterprise IT managers need to proactively manage, monitor, and support mobile/remote workers -- such as administration, remote provisioning, support, and billing -- and delivers them through a single, easy-to-use web portal. The URC gives enterprises unprecedented control over and visibility into remote access to ensure that their mobile/remote workforce stays productive, connected, and secure, no matter what access method they use.
