New Hampshire Governor Craig Benson To Make 25 Millionth Voip Call On Cedar Point Communications System

New Hampshire governor Craig Benson will mark a major milestone in the evolution of Cedar Point Communications, Inc., when he visits the Derry, NH headquarters of the telecommunications technology company on Thursday, June 12.

Governor Benson, founder of Cabletron Systems and a champion of technology innovation, will make the 25 millionth VoIP call from the packet-based integrated voice-over-cable switching system serving Cedar Point’s Derry office complex, as part of a day-long celebration of telecommunications accomplishments for the state. Governor Benson is scheduled to arrive at Cedar Point’s offices at 16 Route 111, Building 3 in Derry at 10:30 a.m.

Cedar Point’s SAFARI C³ Media Switching System is the first packet-based solution to integrate all of the functions necessary for carrier class cable telephony. SAFARI C³ is at the heart of the office deployment, a fully functional HFC cable VoIP infrastructure that uses Cedar Point’s own technology to provide 100% of the telecommunications needs for the company’s offices.

In addition to SAFARI C³, the system utilizes a Motorola BSR64000 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and IP Unity’s Unified Messaging 2.0 voicemail application. Individual office drops in the deployment are equipped with Multimedia Terminal Adaptors (MTAs) supplied by Arris and Motorola. Broadband Access Networking Group (BANG; HFC network design and coax installation), CommScope (fiber) and PCI Technologies, Inc., a member of the ATX Group (splitter combiner network) also were involved in the creation of the office system.

“One of my key objectives as Governor has been the creation of new jobs for our residents,” said Governor Benson. “We’ve already been successful in bringing new jobs to New Hampshire, but it’s equally important that we create an environment that will enable home grown businesses to thrive. With its innovative technology and solutions for the cable industry, Cedar Point is the type of business that will make a substantial contribution to the future of New Hampshire.”

“We’re extremely honored that Governor Benson has taken the time to share this occasion with us,” said George Kassas, founder and executive vice president, operations and business development for Cedar Point Communications. “While our success has been due in large measure to sound ideas, a dedicated staff and strong support from the cable industry, we can’t stress enough the importance of the positive role that both the State of New Hampshire and Governor Benson have played to the high-tech industry in general and Cedar Point Communications in particular. Through his efforts toward business incubators, Research and Development tax credits and Economic Development groups, the Governor has demonstrated his willingness to nurture the entrepreneurial ventures that are our state’s future.”

The only integrated carrier-class voice-over-IP solution designed exclusively for the cable industry, SAFARI C³ utilizes a unique set of PacketClass™ technologies to bring the high quality and reliability of today’s Class 5 voice switches to a packet environment. SAFARI C³ provides superior performance and reliability, significantly reducing capital expenditures, system integration and operations costs for cable operators offering telephony services while increasing network integrity, security and privacy.
