[October 22, 2003] EADS TELECOM Announces PointSpan M6550 VoIP Platform EADS TELECOM North America, a subsidiary of EADSNorth America, today announced the availability of PointSpan M6550, its high-capacity, full Voice over IP (VoIP) and converged telecommunications platform. The addition of the PointSpan M6550 offering completes the general availability of the fully integrated PointSpan M6500 suite. Whether stand-alone or working as a node with other elements of a PointSpan M6500 network, the PointSpan M6550 serves enterprises ranging from a few users to thousands on a single, distributed platform. With the PointSpan M6500 and PointSpan M6880 solutions, EADS TELECOM addresses the diverse networking needs of every enterprise and provides a smooth migration path to VoIP. PointSpan M6550 offers technological advances and outstanding versatility, said Kyle Priest, vice president, marketing, EADS TELECOM North America. Features such as IP resource optimization make PointSpan M6550 an excellent choice for medium and large companies seeking a full VoIP solution or the flexibility to migrate to VoIP. Since the introduction of the PointSpan M6500 product family in February, EADS TELECOM North America has built a nationwide network of value-added resellers (VARs) through 1NService, which has affiliated companies throughout the U.S. and Canada. Through its common architecture and management software, PointSpan M6550 easily networks with the entire PointSpan M6500 IP Telephony family to allow companies to communicate across organizational and network boundaries. The power of the PointSpan M6550 solution lies in its ability to unite companies across multiple sites to deliver powerful productivity applications provided by EADS TELECOM North America, such as Centergy M7480 Contact Center and the new EADS TELECOM Unified Communication Platform, an integrated application that provides voicemail, unified messaging, instant messaging, fax and other forms of communications to improve user productivity. PointSpan M6550 also provides the critical security and reliability required of full-IP systems. The platform uses a proprietary, real-time operating system to dramatically reduce the risk of network intrusions and viruses. It also includes redundant CPUs and power supplies for improved reliability. PointSpan M6550 is configured with both an A side and B side, with communications, including IP functions, automatically transferring to the other side if one side fails. The application-rich PointSpan M6550 platform also produces significant benefits for companies with features such as Virtual Desking and Vital Subscriber. Virtual Desking lets users register to have calls and configuration information sent directly to any phone in the system, no matter where they are within the network. Another of PointSpan M6550's many features, Vital Subscriber provides designated back-up phones where calls are automatically routed if the user's primary phone is down for any reason. EADS TELECOM's philosophy of building systems that are powerful today while offering scalability for the future, is based on an open standards approach. The complete PointSpan M6500 series is designed with standards-based technology, incorporating common IP protocols and interfaces, such as H.323, to address the need for seamless application sharing and management of multiple sites. |
