Brooktrout Technology Introduces Low Density, High-Speed V.34 Digital Fax Solution for Small to Medium Sized Customers

TR1034 4 Channel Fractional T1 Intelligent Fax Board Provides Flexibility and Growth Path

NEEDHAM, Mass., October 20, 2003 — Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of media processing, network interface, call control and signal processing products, today announced the availability of its fractional T1/PRI 4 channel TR1034™ V.34 digital intelligent fax board, rounding out its V.34 product offerings. The addition of the TR1034 4 channel fractional T1/PRI board satisfies the needs of small and medium sized customers who want the benefits of V.34 fax without the added cost of additional channels. Customers who do not require a full T1 solution can buy the capacity they need today, and upgrade as their requirements grow. Brooktrout’s TR1034 enables customers to implement low to mid-density digital fax solutions such as network fax, fax broadcast, unified messaging, and business process automation.

Brooktrout’s 4 channel TR1034 is ideal for customers who have an existing PBX with a bank of unused lines. The 4 channel TR1034 will allow customers to route faxes through their PBX without the need to pay for extra inbound trunk lines. Additionally, the TR1034 fractional T1 series provides a migration path for existing digital and resource-only TR114™ customers who previously implemented 4 channel digital cards but now require a universal PCI.

“Brooktrout continues to deliver the broadest range of intelligent fax board configurations in the industry,” said George Bartley, vice president of engineering for Biscom (www.biscom.com). “With a Biscom FAXCOM fax server and Brooktrout’s TR1034, businesses from large to small can fully integrate fax, email and Internet communications to increase productivity and streamline the flow of information.”

“The addition of the 4 channel TR1034 allows us to offer our small to midsize RightFax customers the benefits of V.34 fax without the added costs of additional channels,” stated Jürgen Stephan, Vice President of Global Marketing for Captaris (www.captaris.com), a leading provider of business information delivery solutions. “Now they can send faster, more reliable faxes without paying for capacity they don’t need.”

“With Brooktrout’s new 4 channel TR1034, even our small business customers can take advantage of the benefits of digital V.34 faxing,” said Thaddeus Bouchard, chief technology officer at Omtool (www.omtool.com). “The TR1034 series of intelligent fax boards can send faxes over standard telephone lines at nearly three times the speed of traditional fax modem hardware. The combination of Genifax’s speed in preparing work for the fax board and the TR1034’s speed at sending and receiving faxes makes this one of the fastest fax server solutions on the market.”

The V.34 fax standard is an important development in fax technology. Not only can it send fax data twice the speed of V.17 (14.4 Kbps), but it also supports fast handshaking, which can cut call setup and session-management time by one third. Fax devices supporting the V.34 (33.6Kbps) standard also deliver more reliable fax transmission, with less requirement for resends, under a wider range of line conditions than those supporting older fax standards such as V.17 and V.29 (9.6 Kbps). The addition of the 4 channel TR1034 rounds out Brooktrout’s existing V.34 intelligent fax board product portfolio complimenting the existing 8, 16, and 24 channels for North America and Japan and E1 fractional 8, 10, 16, 20 and 30 channels for the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey
and Australia.
