The Newspaper That Helped Shape the Course of the Long March

LANZHOU, China, Sept. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- During the Gansu leg of the "Together on the Long March" CICG International Communication Project, Liang Xiaoyuan, son of founding lieutenant general Liang Xingchu, visited the historic Long March sites in Hadapu and recalled a remarkable episode involving his father.

In Hadapu, Liang Xingchu was assigned by Mao Zedong to search for "spiritual nourishmen"—newspapers and other sources of information. A copy of Ta Kung Pao obtained during the mission contained reports about the situation in northern Shaanxi, providing the Central Red Army with important information as it determined where to advance next.

That newspaper helped turn Hadapu, a small town in northwest China, into a key historical landmark on the road toward the Long March's eventual destination.
