New San Diego County Consumer Protection Unit to be Launched With First Three Major Lawsuits Affecting the Online Safety of Children & Ghost Gun ProtectionsWHAT: After fighting to establish a permanent local consumer-protection office, San Diego County Board Chair Terra Lawson-Remer is announcing the launch of the County's new Consumer Fairness and Public Protection division and sharing information on its first three lawsuits against companies accused of illegal, deceptive and predatory practices that affect the safety of children and the manufacturing of ghost guns. Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann LLP serves as outside counsel to the County in one of three matters. Amid gaps in federal consumer protection enforcement, San Diego County is launching a local protection unit so the County can address matters affecting its residents. Consumer Fairness and Public Protection Unit is the first dedicated County unit designed to investigate and pursue civil cases against corporate actors accused of conduct that harms San Diegans.
