[December 03, 2010] Moving From Bronx To Manhattan, Ice Pick Mugger Strikes Again Tweet NEW YORK, Dec 02, 2010 (WPIX-TV - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Cops say a man who uses an ice pick to mug women after cornering them in building elevators, struck again Thursday. Police say the man robbed not one, but two women as they got into elevators in Stuyvesant Town apartment buildings. The attacks happened around 3 and 3:30 p.m. The thug was reportedly pretending to talk on his cell phone while lurking near building entrances, waiting for a target. The "ice pick bandit" has now robbed 6 different women. The latest mugging occurred on Monday, November 22 in Manhattan's East Side. The 63-year-old woman was walking to an apartment building located at 2 Cooper Road in Peter Cooper Village at about 5:30 p.m. when the suspect followed her into the building's elevator and threatened her with an ice pick. He stole at least $700 -- money she had just withdrew from an area ATM -- and fled on foot. Three similar attacks happened earlier in the month in the Bronx's Co-Op City. In all cases, the suspect follows the victim into the apartment building's elevator displays an ice pick, steals the victim's cash and jewelry then flees on foot. Except for the first incident, the mugging have happened during afternoon hours. The first mugging occurred on Wednesday, November 10 at 12:15 a.m. at 100 Alcott Place. The suspect stole cash and a cell phone. The suspect apparently became bolder, as the second and third muggings happened within five minutes of each other. The second attack was on Sunday November 14 at 1:30 p.m. at 140 Benchley Place when a 45-year-old woman had her jewelry and shopping bags stolen. The third mugging happened five minutes later at nearby 100 Eldgar Place when a 50-year-old woman was forced to give the suspect all her money. No injuries were reported in any of the robberies. Cops describe the suspect as a black or Hispanic man in his 40s. They say he is a heavyset man who weighs about 250 pounds and is approximately 6-feet tall. The suspect was previously described as a well-dressed man and has been seen wearing a green jacket, a black leather jacket and a dark-colored ivy cap.
