Last day for Larkspur watering hole Noonan's

(The Marin Independent Journal Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Mar. 7--Saturday is last call for the upscale Larkspur watering hole Noonan's Bar and Grill, which is set to shut its doors after failing to renew its lease at Larkspur Landing shopping center, restaurant officials said.

Owned by 47-year-old Novato restaurateur Brendan Moylan, Noonan's is the newest establishment opened in 2003 by the owner of Marin Brewing Co., also at Larkspur Landing, and Moylan's Brewery and Restaurant in Novato.

"After six great years we were unable to reach a lease renegotiation with the new landlord. If the right opportunity arises, Brendan hopes to reopen Noonan's," said spokeswoman Gabrielle Harris.

"Basically Brendan was hoping to pay less than we were currently paying and the landlord didn't want to drop the monthly rent," she said. "It has nothing to do with the restaurant or the bar." Jim Rosenfield of J.S. Rosenfield & Co., the Santa Monica-based real estate group that bought the shopping center for $65 million in January, said earlier this week, "I'm not able to comment. It's the result of a lawsuit I inherited between the former owner and the restaurant. It's something I inherited." Almost all of the estimated 50 to 70 Noonan's employees are moving on, although Moylan promised each a job in one of the other restaurants if people wanted to stay, Harris said.

Rosenfield in January announced plans to redevelop the shopping center in a "country mart" style with renovated facades, building upgrades, public gardens, picnic areas and a children's playground.

Built in 1978, Larkspur Landing, a 16-acre, 173,000-square-foot retail center, is 70 percent occupied with a tenant mix that includes Bed Bath & Beyond, Marin Brewing Co. and 24 Hour Fitness.
