[March 17, 2009] 'IPO starts consultation on Digital Rights Agency' Tweet (DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The UK's Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has published a consultation on the governments proposal to set up a Digital Rights Agency to manage online copyright issues. Creators, commercial rights-holders and consumer groups are all asked to respond to a discussion paper exploring the potential benefits of a new agency and the impact it would have in combating unlawful online file-sharing and piracy. Issues addressed in the discussion paper include how to educate consumers on copyright protection, supporting industry efforts to offer legal access to content, legislation dealing with repeat offenders, the technical means to protect copyrighted material and the powers and funding of the new agency. All these issues will be publicly addressed in a discussion forum later this spring. Comments can be submitted to the IPO until 30 March.
