Everstream Continues to Invest in Network Growth Through Fiber Builds, Acquisition

Everstream, the business-only fiber network, today announced it has increased its total route miles of fiber by 80% in 2021, to nearly 27,000 route miles of fiber. This represents the company's largest annual network increase to date and includes year-over-year growth through greenfield fiber builds.

Everstream has invested $600 million into growing its high-capacity, low-latency fiber network since 2019. This year, Everstream constructed nearly 2,000 route miles of fiber in new and existing markets and supplemented that growth with assets from a strategic acquisition. The business also has more than 3,000 route miles of fiber under construction, which are expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

"Everstream continues to prioritize investing in our network infrastructure by building new fiber and densifying existing assets to ensure the network exceeds our internal standards for uptime, reliability and delivering an ideal customer experience," said Everstream CEO Brett Lindsey.

In its 2021 Report Card For America's Infrastructure, the American Society of Civil Engineers gave infrastructure in the U.S. a grade of C- amid a $2.59 trillion shortfall in infrastructure spending. While the Infrastructure Bill has passed with funding allocated for middle-mile connections, the funding is a small fraction of the total digital infrastructure package.

"Everstream first began an aggressive investment in our network three years ago and is committed to continuing to do so," Lindsey continued. "From the ever-increasing connectivity requirements of enterpris businesses to the impending demand for 5G services, high-capacity fiber networks are required to support this growth and Everstream's new fiber network infrastructure is primed to serve enterprise customers, support 5G initiatives and more."

Through Everstream's strategic growth, the company is able to provide enterprises across its 10-state footprint with high-capacity connectivity as they scale. The need for increasingly dense fiber networks is being driven by enterprises' need for high-bandwidth connectivity, and the growing need for data centers to push closer to business customers.

As part of its 2021 growth, Everstream also:

  • Built more than 10 million feet of new fiber for the second consecutive year.
  • Acquired fiber assets from Uniti, extending Everstream's fiber network into Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Northern Delaware along with acquiring existing Uniti customers.
  • Added two major metro markets - Philadelphia and Pittsburgh - to Everstream's high-capacity network.
  • Densified existing networks in cities across the company's footprint. The densification efforts included Everstream's networks in Columbus, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, and across the state of Michigan.
  • Increased on-net locations by more than 15%.
  • Increased its workforce by more than 20% through organic hiring and acquisition, including sales and support teams.

As Everstream's network grows, its customers benefit from more diverse network options and direct connections to data centers and locations in the expanded region.

Everstream's enterprise-grade network delivers robust carrier and business fiber services, including dedicated internet access, dark fiber, Ethernet and data center solutions. Everstream's advanced fiber network offers direct peering with all major carriers and cloud hyperscalers. With high-speed, low-latency connections, it can accommodate converged internet, voice and data services at speeds of up to 100 Gbps.
