E-Z-Go making low-speed electric car

Jun 30, 2010 (The Augusta Chronicle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- This E-Z-Go is not meant for golf courses.

The Augusta-based manufacturer is now making a street-level electric car called the 2Five.

It is classified as a Low Speed Vehicle, so it has a top speed of 25 mph and is restricted to roads with a 35 mph speed limit. The vehicle has a 48-volt AC electric powertrain, four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes and an on-board charger.

"The 2Five is a perfect vehicle option for neighborhood road travel, running errands and for those who lead an on-the-go lifestyle," said Kevin P. Holleran, president of E-Z-Go.

A few 2Fives have already rolled off the assembly line and are being shown in select dealers in the nation.

It comes in a two-passenger and four-passenger model. The two passenger version has a trunk.

The 2Five offers a state-of-charge meter that indicates the amount of power left in the batteries. It also has an accessory outlet to provide electrical charge for mobile phones, mp3 players and other devices while on the go.

Brandon Haddock, spokesman for E-Z-Go, said the addition of the new vehicle will not add to the staff of the plant on Marvin Griffin Road. The vehicle can be assembled on the same line as its RXV golf cars.

The suggested retail price for the two-passenger model is $8,300. It is $9,000 for the base four-passenger model.
