Buttons restaurant to be featured on Mystery DinersJun 14, 2013 (Fort Worth Star-Telegram - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- When we wrote our profile of Chef Keith Hicks back in May, we knew that his restaurant, Buttons, was going to be featured on an episode of the Food Network's Mystery Diners. But the Food Network was being mum about the date, until now. The Buttons Mystery Diners will premier Wednesday, July 3 at 9 p.m. CST. The episode, which was filmed at the Addison location of Buttons, is titled "Armed Services." Here's the episode description from the website: "After hearing complaints that his ex-military manager is being too strict, Keith, the owner of Buttons Restaurant in Texas, asks Charles to investigate. Mystery Diners Ben, Justin and Nicole go undercover and discover the staff is planning a mutiny." Of course, there's rampant chatter about the series being all or partly scripted and/or staged, and BBQ Snob Daniel Vaughn makes a very good case for it in a post on the Texas Monthly BBQ site, regarding a Mystery Diners episode featuring Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Q. I just reached out to Chef Buttons about the show; if he responds with a comment, I'll update the post. But whether real or acted, it's still going to be a kick to watch the goings-on at Buttons, and to see how cool cat Keith handles the ostensible mutiny.
