Banks Partner to Award $10K Grant to Disabled Mississippi Veteran

Jack Walker, a retired combat engineer with the Mississippi Army National Guard, will receive a $10,000 Housing Assistance for Veterans (HAVEN) grant from The First, A National Banking Association (The First) and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas). The grant will help with construction costs of a home built by Armorbearers, a local nonprofit organization.

The media is encouraged to join Mr. Walker and bank representatives at a check presentation at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2020, at 37 Rambling Road in Hattiesburg.

HAVEN is a unique grant program offered by FHLB Dallas through its member institutions, such as The First, that supports veterans and active-duty service members who have been disabled in the line of duty since September 11, 2001. The program was recently expanded to include post-9/11 Gold Star Families - those who have lost loved ones to military service. HAVEN provides grants up to $10,000 to fund new construction and home modifications and repairs. To qualify, grant recipients must also meet income eligibility requirements.
