Telecoms, network and datacenter operators, as well as large enterprises, are migrating to optical solutions because of the flexibility and scalability the technology delivers. The Austrian regional network carrier Citynet, which is part of the Hall AG group, has increased its optical infrastructure capacity to address the growing demand of its customers. It’s achieved this goal by deploying MRV Communications’ latest optical transport flagship product line, OptiDriver.
The addition of OptiDriver extends the partnerships between the companies, which goes back more than a decade. Since Citynet has been expanding its footprint in the region to include individual consumers, large enterprises and SMBs with DSL, dedicated fiber, VPN, IP TV and cloud services, its need for optical solutions has increased.
Manuel Kofler, Head of IT Department for Hall AG, commented on the relationship and the new technology, “Ultimately, we chose MRV (News - Alert) because of the reliability we have experienced over the years. The evolving mix of features, and ease of operations, are critical components to ensure ubiquitous access and maximum performance for our customers. DWDM and packet solutions being provided by a single vendor helps streamline our products and simplifies the processes.”
The new MRV optical transport solution was designed to deliver services that require high-capacity bandwidth through fiber optic infrastructures. This includes 10Gbps and 100Gbps applications with a compact, low power and flexible product line.
The flexibility of OptiDriver includes the support of the latest and emerging technologies, ensuring operators have a future proof solution in place. It is able to support speeds from T1/E1 to 100G and protocols, including fiber channel, Ethernet, SONET/SDH, and others with ultra-low latency.
In addition to the speeds, it also has a built-in testing and rapid turn-up features including integrated link testing and spectrum analysis. This gives operators the tools they need to monitor their infrastructure to ensure high levels of SLAs for their enterprise and SMB customers.
“The new addition of our flagship optical transport platform, OptiDriver, will enable Citynet with a scalable and highly integrated metro network that supports further bandwidth growth to 100G capacity and beyond while ensuring an outstanding customer experience," said Scott St. John, Senior Vice President of Global Sales & Service at MRV Communications (News
- Alert).
OptiDriver can be applied in datacenter interconnect for servers, storage and management layers, as well as service provider networks with multi-degree ROADM (News - Alert) requirements. The platform supports multiple protocols and data rates for building any network topology and service.
