CallSnap Mobile App Lets Users Respond to Incoming Calls with Pictures

By Shawn Hebert, TMCnet Contributing Writer

News is still coming out of CTIA (News - Alert) 2013, and one company to take note of is Chicago-based incoming call management software developer TIP Solutions, who is making waves with its recent announcement. The group has launched CallSnap, a downloadable mobile app that provides call recipients the chance to prove that “a picture is worth a thousand words” by responding instantly to incoming calls with just a photograph.

When an incoming call comes through after having downloaded the app, the recipient is provided an option to slide an icon to CallSnap, which will then decline the incoming call. The call recipient is given the opportunity to take a picture which is sent to the caller along with one of multiple pre-determined sayings, such as “I am busy and this is what I am doing.”

What happens on the other end of the call, you wonder? The caller then receives a text message announcing “I am busy right now, a CallSnap is on the way” in order to let them know that the recipient has received the call but cannot talk at the moment. Shortly thereafter, the photo explaining why the caller could not answer the phone comes through.

TIP is expecting the CallSnap app to appeal to younger users because of the popularity of other photo sharing and interactive apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp and SnapChat, even though text messages often seem to be the preferred way of communication.

CallSnap is ready for download in the Google (News - Alert) Play store with both a free and paid version available. The free version allows downloaders to take and send photos that include a CallSnap watermark. The paid version, which will run you a mere $0.99, allows the purchaser to either take a CallSnap photo or use an existing photo from their image gallery. The upgrade version also offers users the ability to improve the picture quality if they so desire.
