Are you a spontaneous traveler? Do you like to visit a new place, spend the day learning the area, and then just minutes before wanting to pass out in bed, book a hotel? Do you laugh at your friends who have their trips so meticulously planned months before leaving? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then Priceline.com’s award-winning Hotel Negotiator app is just the thing for you.
Travel services provider Priceline.com’s Hotel Negotiator was recently recognized as the Best Mobile App at the Asia Pacific Travel Innovation Awards, sponsored by TravelMole and EyeforTravel.
The Hotel Negotiator is one of the few last-minute hotel apps out there that allows travelers to book a hotel room up until 11 p.m. for check in that same night. Used in more than 165,000 hotels across the globe, the popular travel app can help you find and book a last-minute hotel deal. The app comes in two versions: the Android version that supports last-minute hotel room bookings on the night a room is needed, and the iPhone (News - Alert), iPad and iPod touch version that supports hotel bookings as well as last-minute rental car booking service.
“The app actually appeals to a very different type of traveler; we call them the un-tethered traveler because the majority of people who use our desktop services will typically book a hotel room a week or so in advanced so their trip is typically planned out and booked before they go,” Brian Ek, spokesperson for Priceline.com, told TMCnet. “The people who are booking through our mobile apps are holding off and booking the day before they go and a large percentage is not booking until they are in the city that they are traveling to. What we think is happening is there are folks who want to go to a destination, check out the destination, and when they are in a neighborhood that appeals to them then they want to book, and this allows them to do that.”
The Hotel Negotiator app features include Tonight-Only Deals, Published-Price Hotels, Winning Bids Recommendations, Shake-Down Geo-locator-triggered Hotel Search, and Native Navigation.
Tonight-Only Deals allow users to choose from their pick of several three and four-star hotels that can be booked for check-in that same night at discounts of up to 35 percent off published prices. With numerous Published-Price Hotels to choose from, the app spans the globe with hotels complete with photos, maps, reviews and customer satisfaction scores. Winning Bids Recommendations allow users to choose a city and the Hotel Negotiator app will then display recent winning Name Your Own Price bids made by other priceline.com customers for hotels across the city at different star levels.
Moreover, travelers using Name Your Own Price choose their city, neighborhood, star level, dates and price, then receive specific hotel itinerary once the bid is accepted. To establish location-based features, the Shake-Down Geo-locator-triggered Hotel Search feature allows users to find the traveler’s location and perform a Winning Bids search for hotels in the surrounding areas. The Native Navigation feature allows Apple (News
- Alert) and Android devices to recognize the device-specific native navigational tools to guide them through the Hotel Negotiator shopping and booking experience.
“This is a trend in ultra last minute travel that we just didn’t see with desktop travelers,” said Ek. “What this is going to mean is that companies that are designing apps like this for mobile travelers appealing to a different subset of the travel community and consequently, products need to be more last minute-tuned and also need to have features.”
