Sometimes the wheels of corporate transactions move slowly. But sometimes, these transactions are worth the wait.
Back in November of last year, TMCnet reported that the West Corporation, a provider of technology solutions and a Fortune 1000 company, had announced plans to acquire HyoerCube, a provider of local and national tandem services to various US carriers. Well, the wait is finally over. Yesterday, West announced that it had completed the transaction.
Hypercube, which was founded in 2005, uses a call routing control facility to provide tandem interconnection services to businesses including wireless, wireline, cable telephony and VoIP companies.
This acquisition will enable West to operate a nationwide carrier grade network that achieves CLEC certifications and capabilities. It will also enable direct connectivity of West’s voice applications and service platforms to all major carriers.
The $76.6 million purchase will bring HyperCube into the West Communications Services fold. And it will allow West to enable its IP network capabilities by facilitating a merge of traditional telecom, mobile and IP technologies.
In other company news, West recently announced that it would change the name of Smoothstone (News - Alert), a company it acquired in June of 2011, as West IP Communications. According to company officials, the name change is intended to create a consistent voice for the company throughout the marketplace.
“Our vision for unified communications always begins with our clients, so we want to ensure they understand the full breadth of the West product portfolio upon which they can build their businesses,” said Todd Strubbe, president of West’s Unified Communications (News - Alert) business segment.
