Celebrities and Technology: One Kutcher and Two Queens

By Juliana Kenny, TMCnet Web Editor

Actor and entrepreneur, Ashton Kutcher, is a man of many medias. With 7 million followers on Twitter, and active social media promoter, Kutcher utilizes technology to promote not just his own causes, including his most recent efforts to squash out global sex trafficking, but those of others. Recently interviewed by Charlie Rose, Kutcher is quickly becoming Hollywood’s representative in Silicon Valley as he has been more in the spotlight for his investments in technological businesses such as Skype (News - Alert), Flipboard, and Blekko.

But if Kutcher thought he could steal the spotlight for a minute, he was tragically misled. Lady Gaga still holds the top spot for numbers of Twitter followers with 10 million under her belt. That is 10 million people who know where she is, what she’s wearing, and which Biblical figure she is currently obsessed with, at all times. No wonder Forbes decided she is more influential than Oprah! Gaga also revealed her own Zynga (News - Alert) game this week titled GagaVille. Justin Bieber obviously doesn’t stand a chance against the Queen of Twitter until he gets his own Bieberville.

In other news, especially regarding queens, the Royal Wedding is over, but Britain isn’t done making headlines in the technology space. The Queen of England herself, Elizabeth II, has, reportedly, purchased an iPad 2. Apparently, she marveled at her grandsons, Prince Harry’s and Prince William’s, devices from Apple (News - Alert), and ordered one for her own musings and travels. A British newspaper revealed that she was rather impressed with the touchscreen features, and plans on using it while she is in transit. The Queen adds the iPad to her other collection of Apple devices including the iPod that President Barack Obama gave her in 2009.
