Voiceserve Launches Voipswitch Softphone for iPhone and iPod

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Voiceserve Inc.’s Vippie Softphone Dialer has been getting plenty of play as of late, with the platform extending capabilities to include Mobile SIP for Symbian and Windows Mobile integration. Now, the softphone is getting another big boost, adding  the iPhone (News - Alert) and iPod products to its integration roster.

According to Voipswitch, a subsidiary of Voiceserve, the move offers customers the ability to expand their modules to include the iPhone, helping to expand and enhance their businesses.

“When we set out to build the Voipswitch solution, we established a deep understanding of how people really want to communicate through the Internet,” said Chris Oglaza, CTO at Voiceserve. “With the Apple products gaining so much momentum and popularity amongst the global population, and WiFi-enabled zones spreading very quickly, it became apparent that a solution for Apple products needed to be included amongst the Voipswitch Modules.”

London-based Voiceserve’s VoipSwitch is a custom modular all-in-one VoIP management platform licensing solution for resellers delivering VoIP airtime minutes bundled with features including virtual numbers, direct dial, Web callback, call forwarding, IP PBX and mobile softphone technology. Voiceserve recently won a 2009 NGN Leadership Award from NGN Magazine, a TMC (News - Alert) publication.

The new Vippie Softphone for iPhone is specifically designed, and can be incorporated in softswitch’s other than the Voipswitch solution. The Voipswitch iPhone dialer has the same features as the Voipswitch Symbian (News - Alert) dialer.

“The Apple dialer is equipped with the tunneling software which decreases the bandwidth usage, hence significantly improving voice quality in weak internet access conditions,” said Oglaza. “The tunnel enables communication in all scenarios overriding possible firewalls.”

In recent  years, the advent of EDGE, 3G and WiFi (News - Alert) technology has brought with it increasing innovation in the mobile telecom space. And softphones are playing an increasingly important role in these innovations as companies look to streamline cost reducing technologies.

The Voipswitch “Vippie Mobile SIP Softphone” is suited for communication via either GPRS, EDGE, 3G or WiFi connection. With its multi functional characteristics customers are moving toward it as an alternative to the standard GSM.

In addition, Vippie Mobile dialer is expected to help in creating new revenue opportunities for service providers by extending services to private customers and multi-tier corporations. Using the mobile dialer allows service providers to extend VoIP efficiency combined with mobile phone connectivity. These translate into a competitive high-performance solution with a low cost of communication, according to Alexander Ellinson, president of Voiceserve.

“The Vippie Mobile, allows operators to cost-effectively extend their services to new areas, creating greater revenue opportunities,” said Ellinson. “The sophisticated dialer means more possibilities of communicating within the Voipswitch framework, resulting in more efficient ways of globally connecting.”
