The British embody a time-honored tradition of placing their banners further and further from their island in the name of expansion and territorial conquest, and in the case of Voip.co.uk, we find no exception. Earlier this week, Voip.co.uk acquired the majority market share (85 percent stake) of Firstcom, a Danish unified communications (UC) provider.
Voip.co.uk provides cloud-based services, like its SIP Encrypt solution, to call centers, equipping them with the ability to process card payments and other sensitive information, while adhering to government enforced security encryption mandates and regulations. Now, with its recent acquisition, Voip.co.uk will be able to facilitate assimilation between its currently offered technology and Firstcom’s mobile-focused UC offerings, yielding a more holistic and all-encompassing approach to VoIP.
“It was foremost a technology acquisition; we wanted access [to their software],” said Adam Crisp, CTO of Voip.co.uk. “It’s time that you’re buying. It was quicker for us than to beef up our teams to go and do that work.”
The way Crisp sees it, Scandinavian technology in this vertical is five years ahead of any other area in Europe, largely due to their pervasive technological infrastructure, which was deployed some time ago.
While this acquisition took place late last year, both parties needed six months integrating each other’s tech code-base together. Now, Voip.co.uk and Firstcom have begun launching technology that aptly accents the other’s technological innovations, including a Firstcom UC solution interwoven with Voip.co.uk’s security and billing features, and an enhanced mobile product with business-to-business MVNO planned for U.K. release later this year (under the Firstcom name).
With these and other combined product launches in the way, Voip.co.uk seeks to further its global reach, acquiring ready-made customer bases in deployment friendly territories worldwide, to continue its quest toward global VoIP dominance.
VoIP service offerings on a global level are also synonymous with Internet Telephony (News - Alert) provider Sippy Software, Inc. Boasting cost-effective communication architecture, Sippy is found in more than 100 countries around the world, and is responsible for heavily advancing numerous open-source SIP initiatives.
In the battle of global supremacy in VoIP service offerings, we find many contenders indeed, making the expansion of Internet Telephony tantamount to a tech war.
