Primus Telecommunications (News - Alert) Canada, (Primus Canada), a wholly owned subsidiary of PTGi (Primus Telecommunications Group, Inc. – which operates a global network of next-generation VoIP switches -- announced the availability of its VoIP services in additional 240 exchanges across Canada.

The new locations cover areas such as British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.

The expansion is part of the company's continued investment in the country to tap the growing opportunity for VoIP services. With the evolution of VoIP technology there has been a huge adoption of these feature-rich services by businesses and consumers.

According to AJ Byers, executive vice president, Primus Business Services, over 50 percent of Primus business customers choose IP-based technology for their telephony services. With Primus Home Phone (News - Alert), customers can save up to $60 per month compared to current offerings by traditional phone companies, with plans starting at $9.99 per month.

Additionally, Primus business customers can expect to save over 40 percent on their monthly communication bills versus existing traditional telephone services. They can choose from a choice of fully hosted phone systems, SIP Trunking services and other Voice over IP solutions for as little as $7.95 per month.

The service allows wholesale customers to access a wide range of services connecting to Primus' national and international footprint, the company said.

"Over the last three years, tens of thousands of businesses and consumers have selected Primus VoIP services which are feature-rich, and designed to drive cost savings and productivity improvements," said AJ Byers. "With today's expansion of our footprint by 240 exchanges, approximately four million more Canadians have expanded choice in services so they too can realize greater value for their money."

Earlier in August, TMCnet reported that Primus Telecommunications Canada announced the availability of Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) (SIP) Trunking service for small business VoIP customers in Canada.
