Now you’ve got to like a VoIP solutions article that starts out lamenting the fact that “we don’t work that much differently than we did when Led Zeppelin started touring.” Which would be approximately 1969 or 1970 – this reporter is too lazy to go look it up just now.
“Think about it,” said the blog post all about various VoIP solutions, cleverly titled “Communication Breakdown” from Teo. “When you step away from your desk, you lose so much of your ability to communicate effectively. Your desk phone may be forwarded to your mobile, but what about your voicemail indicator? How about your corporate directory? What if you want to pop out of your office to ask a coworker a quick question?”
Recently, Teo sponsored a survey, in which the results were published in “The State of Unified Communications (News - Alert): Adoption Drivers in 2011,” finding that 75 percent of workers spend more than half of their time at their desks.
That certainly includes me, although I work at home, so of course in that situation, “desk” usually means “dining room table.” Teo finds it “shocking” that such a high percentage still work as their desk, “given the rapid increase in smart phones, tablets and real-time capabilities available.”
Evidently they don’t think the ability to work remotely is being used as much as it should, even with all the VoIP solutions available to facilitate just that. “In fact, 37 percent of respondents were not satisfied with the current technology provided to them that enables them to work remotely.”
The company found that Unified Communications aren’t adapted by many “because of the lack of information available. Most people and businesses don’t have a clear understanding of what UC is and the benefits that it can provide.” That is a communication breakdown indeed.
So the company offers UC tools, so all types of organizations can offer “a flexible work environment for their workers by integrating core communications capabilities such as email, voicemail, voice-conferencing, desk phones, mobile phones, soft phones, IM, fax and call recording into one unified platform.”
And that’s about as unified as you can get.
