In mid-July, VoIP
service provider SunRocket (News - Alert) suddenly closed shop, leaving about 200,000 customers scrambling to restore their phone service through another provider.
When SunRocket went under, hosted VoIP PBX
provider Nuvio (News - Alert) went into action, offering former SunRocket customers a free month of VoIP service with activation fees waived. Nuvio also assisted former SunRocket customer get their local phone numbers ported.
To find out more about how Nuvio has been helping out former SunRocket customers since July, TMCnet asked the Nuvio director of marketing Joe Woodbury for an update.
TMCnet: How would you summarize the recent situation involving SunRocket VoIP service?
JW: It really has put a black eye on the VoIP community as a whole. The technology was just getting to the point where consumers where accepting it and embracing it. And it has now made people wary of VoIP again. So now we have to figure out a way to rebuild that trust.
TMCnet: How can a VoIP PBX (News - Alert) solution from Nuvio help former SunRocket customers?
JW: Our products most benefit SunRocket customers that were using the service as a business application. These customer now have an opportunity to transition from a simple VoIP phone line to a VoIP PBX overnight.
TMCnet: What is Nuvio doing to help former SunRocket customers?
JW: Initially, we helped these customer out with the tedious process of a porting their numbers. We offered low-cost plan similar to offers from SunRocket--$199 / year. Now that the window to port numbers has closed we are focusing on developing a new features for our nPBX product that will benefit residential users.
TMCnet: What is an example of a former SunRocket customer that found Nuvio’s solutions especially useful?
JW: A lot of businesses were using SunRocket for a their phone; now, with Nuvio, these customer gain the same ease of use associated with a VoIP phone plus the benefits and the features of a PBX.
TMCnet: What does the SunRocket situation say about the larger VoIP PBX market?
JW: The VoIP community now will have to rebuild trust that took years to build, by showing that not all VoIP companies treat customers like that. Most of the established VoIP companies care a lot about customers and will bend over backwards to help them out.
TMCnet: What else should people know about SunRocket and Nuvio?
JW: Nuvio has been around for a while, and we’re not going anywhere. We are continually acquiring other VoIP companies that find they can’t keep up with the demand for services and features that businesses need. We are expanding our product line and look forward to changing business lifestyles through enhance business phone services.
